Crush & Roll West Auctions

The spirit of Crush & Roll West 2011 will once again embody the spirit of giving. To give back to our local community, we have established both live and silent auctions that will benefit local groups. This year's beneficiary will be announced soon.

Project Mañana logoProject Mañana International is a non-profit 501(c)3 humanitarian organization dedicated to bettering the lives of impoverished children, their families and communities through nutrition, education, and guidance.

We achieve our goals through charitable donations and child sponsorship, which unites children in need with individual sponsors who wish to address the children's immediate and basic needs. Sponsorship gives poor children the tools and opportunities necessary for success by providing benefits and supporting programs for each child - primarily in the areas of education and nutrition.

CRA logoCigar Rights of America (CRA) is an organization that was founded on the principle of fighting for the freedom to enjoy cigars. Though they are not a direct benefactor of our auctions or donations, we are partnering with the CRA to draw attention to the proposed restrictions to our basic freedoms. CRA is a consumer-based, non-profit public advocacy organization that works at the local, state, and federal level of government to protect the freedoms of cigar enthusiasts.

Together, with their constituency of nationwide members, the CRA focuses their fight for freedom in the following core areas:

   check
Oppose Restrictive Smoking Bans

Government Regulation of Cigars

Oppose Taxation of Cigars

Carlito Fuente signed hatPANAMA HAT SIGNED BY CARLOS FUENTE JR. "CARLITO." The Arturo Fuente Cigar Company has a legacy that is unrivaled in the cigar industry. The family hails from Cuba. Born in 1887, Arturo Fuente learned the art of cultivating top quality tobacco and manufacturing handmade cigars from his father in Cuba. In 1906, Arturo immigrated to Key West, Florida where he rolled his first cigars in America. He then moved his family to Tampa Florida's Ybor City, which was then the cigar capital of the world. It was there, in 1912, that he rolled the first cigars bearing the family name. Arturo's son, Carlos Sr. was literally born into the cigar business, as his home served as the first Arturo Fuente cigar factory. Every day after school, Carlos would return home and learn the artisanal craft of rolling handmade cigars. Not long after Arturo passed away, then Carlos Fuente Jr. was born. His early life mirrored that of his father's. He too was born in the family home/factory and he too learned the cigar trade at an early age.

In 1980, the Fuente's opened their first factory in the Dominican Republic with just 7 employees. Today, the company has 2,500 employees in four factories in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Arturo Fuente has remained one of the most sought-after cigars in the world and they have been internationally recognized as one of the best cigar makers in the world. While Don Carlos Sr. is the current patriarch of the company, his son "Carlito" runs day to day operations of the company. We met with Carlito at the recent cigar trade show and he agreed to sign one of his hats for our auction.

Cigar mold signed by Jonathan DrewHAND-PAINTED CIGAR MOLD SIGNED BY JONATHAN DREW. In 1998, a few years after leaving their finance and law careers behind, Jonathan Drew and Marvin Samel started up a Nicaraguan factory and producing their own cigars. They began with ACID, a hip cigar brand that proclaimed its Brooklyn roots. They then added their flavored cigar lines, and eventually more traditional cigars. However, each of their cigar brands have specific and separate identities and their marketing power is second to none. While the heart of the company is in Brooklyn, Nicaragua is where the cigars are manufactured. The Drew Estate factory extends to 96,000 square feet and employs nearly 800 workers. For the 2011 cigar trade show, the company commissioned artisans from Nicaragua to hand paint old cigar molds. These molds have been used for over a century to pre-press the unfinished cigars so they will hold their round shape until the precious wrapper leaf has been placed around the "bunch." We are proud to offer one of these hand-painted gems, made even more unique by the signature of company co-founder, Jonathan Drew.

Partagas Limited Reserve DecadasBOX OF 20 PARTAGAS DECADAS 1999 (NO. 1) CIGARS IN GLASS TUBES. The overwhelming success of Partagás 150, which celebrated 150 years of the Partagás brand, led Cigar Master Daniel Núñez to recognize that ten year old Cameroon wrapper tobacco was the secret to producing a standout Partagas Limited Reserve cigar. As a result, that very year, he began reserving superlative Cameroon wrappers and carefully monitoring their maturation. Ten years later, he released a phenomenal cigar to showcase only the most exemplary of his beloved wrapper leaves, those deemed worthy of the Partagas Limited Reserve Decadas designation. Filled with a blend of proprietary tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and from the remote Nicaraguan island of Ometepe, and bound with fine Honduran San Agustin leaf, Partagas Limited Reserve Decadas cigars are dressed in flawless, ten-year-old Cameroon wrapper before undergoing a rigorous aging process in rooms crafted exclusively of fragrant Spanish cedar. This box of cigars was released in November 2009 and contains wrapper leaves from the 1999 harvest. This is box number 173 of only 200 made. We are proud to offer it as one of our premier auction items.

CRUSH & ROLL MAGNUS 2006 PORT. This port was made for the 2010 Crush & Roll event and it has been aging for an additional year. One case of this superb exclusive port will be auctioned.

CAMACHO 2011 LIBERTY. Since 2002, Camacho has release a limited edition cigar called the Liberty. Filler tobaccos from (3) unique countries of origin provide for an intensely flavorful and complex experience that is truly extraordinary.

KRISTOFF CIGARS. One box of Kristoff Maduro cigars, a Kristoff T-shirt and a Kristoff baseball cap. The cap and box are both signed by founder Glen Case.

RAFFLE ITEMS. We will also be having numerous raffles during the event. The proceeds of the raffles will also go to our charity, Project Mañana. The auction items above will be auctioned on Friday night, but over the Friday and Saturday event, we will raffle over 40 additional prizes on Friday evening and another 50 prizes on Saturday. From wine, cigars and other items, you will be astounded at the volume of prizes available.

Paso Robles Police Activities LeagueThe California Police Activities League (PAL) is a California 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1971 by a group of visionary police officers, spearheaded by San Francisco Police Detective, Charles Ellis. The organizations primary goal was to have its members meet biannually to share ideas, information and procedures from their local PAL programs and to promote the PAL concept.

California PAL has continued to expand into one of the largest nonprofit organizations in the state. Thanks to the hard work and efforts of numerous individuals coming together to focus on engaging the youth of California, the organization now includes over 100 local Police, Sheriff’s, and Youth Activity Leagues from throughout the State of California.

In 1991, California PAL expanded its mission to engage youth by bringing together youth teams from local member PAL’s throughout the state and holding its first annual basketball tournament. Building from that successful event, California PAL now sponsors many different types of boys and girls youth sporting events, and other enriching youth activities that are conducted in a safe, supervised environment

Downhill DerbyThe Paso Robles Police Department has been a chapter of PAL since 1994. The two main programs the Paso Robles chapter has to offer are the Downhill Derby Checkered Flag Challenge, Jr. Giants and Trout Fishing Derby—held each year.

The Downhill Derby has two purposes. The first is to get as many young people out in the middle of May as we can to have a fun, safe day of racing soapbox cars. The second reason is our annual fundraiser. Through this event, we are able to support nearly 400 youth in Paso Robles, in various activities, to help keep them safe and out of trouble, throughout the summer months and after school.

Jr. GiantsThe Junior Giants program is a summer baseball league, run free of charge for children ages 8-13 living in inner cities and rural suburbs throughout Central and Northern California. Coaches teach values such as teamwork, confidence, integrity and leadership to players in hopes of helping the children to make smart decisions, and to keep them active and off the streets.

Recently, California PAL has also made a concerted effort to provide high-tech tools for its local PAL members to communicate, exchange ideas, and manage their PAL branches more effectively. These efforts have also expanded to assisting local PAL branches in providing youth with the opportunity to gain essential computer training and skills for the high-tech workplace.

The PAL Trout Fishing Derby is a free fishing contest for kids ages 5 – 15 who can compete to win prizes for the biggest fish! Held this past year in April at Barney Schwartz Park, this 8th annual event

From its humble beginnings over 30 years ago, California PAL has grown into an organization that makes a positive difference in the youth of California and strives to continue making a strong contribution in reducing juvenile crime and creating a safer environment within the State of California.
